INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLAN

How we Teach

Select Centres have been in operation since 1990. During this time we have developed our own unique method of learning which all of our Tutors are trained and skilled to teach. We know the importance of a thorough assessment. Our aim is to enhance your child’s learning.

We develop Individual Learning Plans (ILP’s) to help each child reach their goals.
We are skilled in our delivery of education.
We provide continual reinforcement and assessment.

Our Courses
Select offers tuition and teaching in English, Maths and Science for children aged 4-18 years who may be experiencing difficulties with particular subjects or concepts. We also provide specialist tuition for children gifted in particular areas to enable them to proceed at a speed appropriate to their talent.

We specialise in a range of well planned courses for children sitting common entrance exams at 11 and 13. These courses can start as early as 7 years old ensuring the children can quickly gain 12 months in advance of their educational age. We aim for each pupil to receive individual attention which can help them acquire skills and knowledge.

Step One: The Assessment
Select use fully recognised assessment procedures in areas of reading, spelling, comprehension and numeracy. The assessments provide valuable information to the parent about their child’s ability and potential and can be used as a benchmark when helping prepare our ILP and preparing for our courses for 11+, 13+ and SAT’s.

Step Two: The Individual Learning Plan
Select uses the assessment along with parental contributions to devise a comprehensive and personalised learning plan for your child. ILPs aim to achieve specific targets whether its: raising confidence, key skills, or completing one of our many courses. Our methods of teaching centre around 30 minute teaching blocks of structured and well planned subjects.

Step Three: The Reinforcement Stage
Select Tutors will use their skills to help children attain knowledge and skills in areas highlighted in our assessments. Teaching units will be in 30 minute slots. More importantly the teacher will use reinforcement strategies to help children retain their knowledge with practice and confidence boosting methods. Select Tutors will continually assess your child’s progress and will give feedback to you weekly or on request.

Step Four: The Testing Stage
Every 6 months your child will receive a full assessment which will assess attainment and knowledge and will inform parents of progress by a written report.
